DESIGNING A SCORPION FLY PART 1 _

In the context of American design promoted by MinioJuan in Pajarita.biz , because you get the opportunity to Colombia ... and it is still time to participate. It

I've taken time to write this article (part of 2 parts) to show a small alternative design origami models for those we do not understand how mathematical design (which gives very good results, really impressive) but I really do not understand, for example, all models know Nicolas Gajardo (Chile him) and his blog where he explains how to design. Http://www.novalecortar.blogspot.com/ . And woow that is stunning models .... But like Robert Lang does not understand or five of which explains .... And I've tried it ... so I will explain how I design my models though are not as nice as those of mathematicians .... (to see if Nicholas ever tells me in person ... although I think either way ... whatever)

This time the challenge is to design a fly-Scorpio, the winner will book Satoshi Kamiya ... and will be awarded prize!.

origamistico In my calendar I have opened a small field to the design of this model I thought it was part of the mythology to see the model in YAGORIGAMANIA flickr album and makes a time.

But it turns out is a real animal, can only find 2 pictures really good googling and I can not remember the links of where to take them, plus I mean they were "really" good for my purposes were used to design and not because the others were not well taken.

2 1

As you all know I love very much Treemaker Mr Lang , but to use it should determine the dimensions and proportions at least at each of the appendices to the figures, for which the two images were ideal.

as always I measure these appendices using a program called Solid Edge mechanical design that is ideal for this task. (Click to enlarge)

image

after these measures is fairly easy to create a "tree" decent Treemaker using the measurements that gave us the .... (Click to enlarge)

with a little skill with the program and really short time results in a good distribution of points ... it is clear that this distribution of points in the wings are on opposite corners of the square and symmetry .... the 3 legs on each side have a condition to be collinear (ie they are in the same line .. in this case to highlight the green lines), taking into account the above, this makes to form a beautiful trapeze to help in the subsequent collapse of the CP., also the head if they see it up close in almost a bird base inscribed with the tip broken to generate the eye ... a cp. easy after all ... it seems. (click to enlarge)

but hey, there were some sections that I liked and I guess at first glance you either, so that oRipa has put me edit the result given by Treemaker, it was not difficult as using the Reference Finder got mini folding sequence that is quite effective using tools oRipa. This cp .., you see has some head differences ... for example, I omitted the separation of the eyes and it is simply splitting a point to 22.5 degrees in two which is simple, leave intact the trapezius generated treemaker but a little bit better to apply some collinearity some tips ... they see? (click to enlarge)

CP2

This cp. generates a very interesting model with the exact proportions LESS in the neck is too long and do not like as well but the proportions are accurate I do not like the full length of the queue and that I can not give details or the tip body the sting that look-envelope should be divided into two smaller tips and be much larger, the tip of a very thick head was almost impossible to lose weight, this model would be abandoned even without details .. attempting a model with many problems.

--------------- Something quite interesting is the previous model similarity to bases that have registered bird ... maybe see it in small as I can see them:

image

curiously in the week that was working on this second attempt to fly scorpion miniojuan informed us of his new friendship with the great Manuel Sirgo, and we all know that the great models to (or made) to tip traditional bases, so that taking into account the information obtained in the cp. the previous model and I went to work came a new cp. a new model with proportions almost identical to those given by the Treemaker and an apparent bending sequence (click to enlarge)

image

is clear that only touches the blade divided into 6 equal parts and fold the bird inscribed bases, something different is the distribution of points, because the wings are inside the paper (base recorded bird central), feet from the base of each bird, one of the corners, the tail tip remains at the bottom left (in the white box) and head with antennas provided in the upper right edge, bending bending emerged a new model, much easier to collapse, but some problems.

When we try to model this in the paper introduced basis points we generate undesirable that the only thing they do on paper does not allow swell the double well model also sometimes generate unwanted points that complicate everything. that occurred in this model, they gave us good tips and expected to generate antennae, wings and feet in size and expected doblabilidad but with serious design problems, the wings were trapped in some of the inner ends of the bird and prevented bases could properly accommodate and shape, further blocking the entire structure of the queue for what seemed more short of what was and to try to thin it cracks and breaks generated in the role

Interestingly, this model earned bend twice as many problems because although their distribution of points was spectacular, the second fold (yellow) trying ; improve the flaws of the first bend (white) generated a much better model in terms of these problems but raises others, since weight loss tips to its thickness "Final" required to open the paper constantly generating successive collapses either open or closed at the end of the model that wore the paper only by the constant handling, and although the role of this second attempt was better (double yellow silk) to the first, term model as being worse finish, something that was considerably improved the length of the tail than the model allowing a larger sting to which he could divide the tip into two parts ... but let's be honest, yet little scorpion fly. a

ago many months, my friend Eric Madrigal had challenged me to create a mosquito using boxpleating (according to him as a design method), but we know that if I use it I use it as a method of folding and that because I do not like.

The point is that the design of the mosquito (sorry not to put pictures since the model will be participating in the competition of folding of the convention in Spain this year and I hope your diagrams that appear in the book of the convention) I gave the bases to improve this modelillo, so I take a little (literal.. a little) time to change it to boxpleating and eliminate unwanted tips that I generated unwanted layers and therefore all the problems of the previous model.

file just in oRipa previous model generates a grid of 24 * 24 and using cp. the previous model trace the pattern on boxpleating omitting unwanted points (which were seen) ... that generate a model collapsible much thinner than the first even before folding (see the virtual bending the program does in gray) and at the end. Now just wanted to bend on the 3rd attempt to fly scorpion. (Click to enlarge)

image

Former interesting cp generate a model with a tail a little bigger than originally desired but initially unforeseen allowed to give details to the body and sting (including split into two without shortening the final size of the tail), in addition to that the wings were free to be shaped, in addition to color changes in specific points of the head ( are not appreciated because "recycle" the yellow paper's second attempt to try ... finally after all are near the same model) .. I think it is noticeable a scorpion fly this model if only a draft and only has a dry sizing (I am creating an article about this technique that I am the only one I use) to use throughout the body ... (click to enlarge)

& # 160;

now to create a model double bicolor, with wet sizing CMC and the whole thing ... but that in part two of this article.
